The book release party for Spilt Milk went really well. It was a dark and stormy night. No, seriously, the weather was really sloppy that night. Twenty-five to thirty people came out to Baked by Amy's for the event. People had cookies (or in a couple of instances, a cupcake and a brownie). I did a great job with my first public reading. A few friends I hadn't seen in years came out to support me. It was a real rush! I appreciate everyone who gave this book a great start.
With my first public reading done, I have been looking for other opportunities. The other day, I visited the amazing Austin Public Library to get a reading of Spilt Milk on the schedule. I need to get back in touch with the neighborhood library. Plus, I need to find the time during the week to get over to BookPeople (more on this in a moment). Taking a walk around the Arboretum the other day, I may do a spontaneous public reading out by the cows. Maybe I will do the same in other public places. Who knows?
BookPeople...At the moment, we are unable to sell Spilt Milk on consignment because the title is not on the spine. Looking through the kids' old books, some of them have a miniscule title along the spine. However, I found a couple that do not follow this. Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems does not have the title on the spine, but then again, this book is probably not sold on consignment. BookPeople may need to wait until a limited-edition hardback version.
As you may have noticed, I have tweaked this website a bit. I replaced the Twitter feed on the side with this posting of current projects. I added reviews with the pictures on the other side. I think it nicely fills in the whitespace around the pictures. Other changes and tweaks will be coming soon.
With the incoming money from book sales and a bit of a budgeted allowance from my paychecks, I will soon have money to get other projects moving again. I have one book on standby, waiting patiently to be in the hands of an editor.
The Scooby Doo fan-fic is coming along nicely. I have come up with a bit more details that supports the mystery nicely. Plus, it should help with the changed dynamics of the gang of Mystery Inc.
