What's Going On? 2018-07-25 06:29:49 It has been far too long since I have updated what has been going on. What has been going on?
I am still getting some great feedback from Bill, my editor, for my next collection of short fiction. His feedback has prompted some big changes to the frame story around the individual short fiction, but it works much better.
Keeping up with the blogs on a weekly basis is time consuming. I know people have been reading them, because I've engaged in conversation on social media or in person about a few of the subjects. But, I don't know if I can or want to keep up with blogging on a weekly basis. I feel I spend more time on blog writing than creative writing, which isn't what I want. So, I have tapered off. I may try to reschedule for every other week.
Speaking of the blog...Sometimes, there are non-writing topics I would like to talk about. I moved my blog to this website to focus on writing. I may make a behind-the-scenes change to be able to blog on other topics, yet separate it from the creative writing and publishing blogs. Who knows.
Last night, I met with a woman who interviewed me about my independent publishing. It was great talking with her for a number of reasons. First, whenever I get a chance to talk with someone about my creative processes, I get a boost of creative energy. Second, we talked about two key aspects of publishing: content and marketing. The discussion made me realize (or at least reminded me) that I have a strong grasp of the content. The creative content I provide comes back generally with very positive feedback. But, the marketing of this content is still a very tricky hurdle to overcome. Most people provide very similar feedback. If most people are trying the similar feedback, then it no longer works effectively. She and I agreed that it will take a unique approach to try something different, or to try something old in a new way. Which, leads me to the third...She and I have an idea or two we will try out to overcome that hurdle, and that is quite exciting. Stay tuned!
Back in January/February, I started a new job. I really enjoy working at this company. Like all companies, it has its politics and dramas. However, it has provided several opportunities for some creative programming. Some of the work I've done has been fantastic and has moved our department ahead in a very positive way. Unfortunately, by the end of the day, even though I have done some great work, I feel very creatively drained. I can't or shouldn't really use that as an excuse for not getting more writing done. But, it does set me in more of a mood to procrastinate in the evenings with either watching the Great British Bake Off or playing No Man's Sky.
I recently finished reading the Last Dossier of Twin Peaks. I feel I have a bit more closure to the series. It's a fantastic series. It's one of the things that inspires me. What I will read next is a different mystery.
That's enough for now. Remind me to tell you next time about my name tag. Current Standing Towards Weekly Goals:
